Peru Sells Presidential Plane for IDR 263 Billion for Citizens' Social Betting

LEMPIRAEMIGRA - Peru's president, Pedro Castillo Terrones, is determined to auction off the presidential plane. This is intended to increase social betting funding for all Peruvians, including health and education.

Since he took over as head of Peru in July, Castillo has brought various socialist elements. In fact, the left-wing president endorsed the second Agrarian Reform in early October the other day.

1. Castillo exposes aircraft marketing in commemoration of 100 days of his leadership

Castillo expressed his ambition to sell the presidential plane during his 100-day presidency in Peru.

"I informed you that we will sell the presidential plane and later use it for additional health and education capital," Castillo said on Wednesday (11/10/2021), taken from Mercopress.

Not only that, Castillo is currently planning to ban several public officials from flying using special class aircraft.

"I have seen that public officials get exclusive rights. For this, I will state a rule to prohibit all officials from flying first class planes. In government for the people, therefore officials will travel like ordinary citizens in Peru," he said.

Through the event, which was held in Ayachuco, Castillo announced that the government would start re-talk regarding the abundance of natural gas in Peru.

2. Castillo announces increased earnings at least in Peru

After that, he shared his inspiration to increase his income from 930 soles (Rp 3.2 million) to 1,000 soles (Rp 3.5 million) from December 1 onwards.

He said that the face-to-face assessment would resume in March 2022, coinciding with the new coaching year. Schools in Peru inevitably close due to the COVID-19 endemic since March 2020 and are targeted online.

  • The marketing of the aircraft that Castillo has worked on is used to pay for health facilities that have been heavily affected by the COVID-19 endemic. And functioned to pay off the state debt from its initial leadership.

The 52-year-old president said that the state debt involved 100 parties which reached 7.4 million US dollars (Rp105 billion). Some of the debtors, among others, are international companies, including mining, aircraft, telecommunications, banking, and retail outlets, taken from Republic World.

    3. The presidential plane offered is old

Taken by the BBC, the presidential plane that will be offered is a Boeing 737-528 type, which is found to be more than 25 years old. The presidential plane was purchased during the reign of the remaining President Alberto Fujimori in 1995 at a price of 27.6 million US dollars (Rp. 393.3 billion).

Selling an old Boeing plane is not an easy matter. The problem is that the presidential plane has limited space, if it is converted into a commercial plane, it will cost a lot of money.

In fact, the rest of President Alan Garcia in 2007, had already auctioned the plane twice, but it ended in failure.

Among other things, the argument why the presidential plane was not successfully offered was that the price was seen as too high, which was some 18.5 million US dollars (Rp 263.5 billion). On the other hand, the plane was offered in connection with a party event on the plane that involved a group of Peruvian officials when they went to Spain.
